My thinking is this Luigi situation might have been a 'suicide by murder'. Luigi was calm, on the phone before the shooting, arrived in NYC 2 days before the agenda of the meeting was published so how would he know the CEO was even in town? CEO had been threatened but did not have security with him, CEO was under investigation for fraud and insider trading. I think CEO wanted his family to receive the insurance money in the case of his demise.
“The facts themselves are not in dispute. Luigi Mangione did in fact shoot and kill United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. No one contests the events themselves.”
No one contests that SOMEONE did in fact shoot and kill the CEO. Whether that’s Luigi Mangione is still contestable. That is what a criminal investigation and trial is for. He has contested this himself by pleading not guilty. I understand and agree with the point you are making, but it is not accurate and also a disservice to his presumption of innocence at this time.
You're technically correct, but the "wasn't me" defense isn't likely to make an appearance at trial. And it would be hard to argue that the journal he left doesn't admit the act. I know ... maybe someone planted the journal, etc. There's always a conspiratorial hoop to jump through, and then another. If I am to presume his innocence, it would be much easier to do so with my argument than with a claim that it was actually someone else. But I'm not his lawyer.
If wealthy CEO’s are nervous now, just wait for all the people losing their Medicaid!

While any number of things are possible, I'm not sure I can follow you on this one. I'm a bit more of an Occam's razor guy myself.
Thanks, and amen.
