Trump and a number of his GOP cronies are sending troops to the border to quite literally put immigrant families in the crosshairs. This will have consequences, both politically and morally, and it’s about time we started paying attention to the real cost of politicizing the military.
RICK: I got to ask you about the use of our army, our military on domestic soil. They've sent thousands of troops down to the Mexican border. Any thoughts on this? I mean, I know we're not supposed to … we're not using them against U.S. citizens. So is there any … do you have any problems with that?
RICH: I do. I do. I do. Because are we going to allow American soldiers to squeeze triggers on people that are just wanting a better way of life, that are just trying to flee areas where the cartels rule?
Are we really going to put troops in a position where they could squeeze triggers on human beings? Because let me tell you something, that stuff weighs on the soldier. Make no mistake about it. A soldier squeezing triggers on somebody that just wants to come across the border because they want to have a better life for their children. That will go with you for the rest of your life. That's a fact. And make no mistake about it.
You know what? That's the thing that drives me crazy is that everybody wants to throw stones at these people. You won the lottery because you were born on this side of the fence. If you weren't born on this side of the fence, your family would be doing exactly what they're doing, trying to get you over here so you could enjoy some of the freedoms that we have and some of the security that we have.
And it's a shame that we have so many people … it's a shame that they put our military in this type of a position.
That's not the way it's supposed to be.
