The Republican Party demonstrates, repeatedly and without remorse, that its word is worthless. Negotiating with them is an exercise in futility, a deliberate trap for anyone naive enough to think this MAGAt death cult has any interest in a functioning democracy that works for all. They demonstrate, repeatedly and without remorse, that they are not to be trusted. Will Democratic leadership ever learn?
GOP: A Party Unworthy of Trust
For an example, we need to look no further than this week's “claw back” rescission bill gutting of public media funding and foreign assistance programs. This funding, originally included in the comprehensive government funding bill for the 2025 fiscal year, was set to allocate billions for public broadcasting, foreign aid and global health assistance programs over the next two years.
With JD Vance’s tie-breaking vote, Senate Republicans advanced their betrayal through a "rescission" bill designed to “claw back” this previously agreed-upon funding. This act of bad faith shows their true nature. You see, Republicans have no interest in honoring any agreement. Democrats would be fools to think otherwise.
Part of this “claw back” includes stripping funding for vital services like weather alerts distributed through PBS – putting public safety at risk in their relentless ideological crusade. The final death toll and devastation thanks to Republican policies on display in Texas isn’t fully yet calculated, but here they come again to endanger the people they pretend to represent.
To make the betrayal even more infuriating, the money Republicans are “clawing back” came from omnibus - the very same legislation where Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer ultimately agreed to a million years ago in March in order to avert a government shutdown. You know— the government shutdown that was supposed to be catastrophic.
We all remember Schumer’s decision to capitulate led to division among Democrats (like myself) who argued that his unwillingness to fight sacrificed leverage, and set the stage for repeated betrayals. So, here we are, telling Schumer, “we told you so.” Far from avoiding catastrophe, Schumer’s rolling over cleared the way for Republicans to shove their catastrophic Big Ugly Bill down America’s throat, causing unprecedented destruction and now, this rescission betrayal which adds more suffering and damage to the ever-increasing pile.
Republicans would not have been able to do this much damage in less than six months if Schumer had been willing to do everything in his power to completely stop them in their tracks.
Why Democrats are under the naive assumption that Republicans might honor basic principles of democratic governance—when they don’t “believe” in democratic government—is a mystery for the ages.
Ultimately and repeatedly, the American people are the ones getting hurt.
A Pattern of Republican Deceit
Republicans make deals to secure votes, only to betray those gullible enough to believe they have a modicum of integrity. For Chrissakes, they literally have a traitor, a malignant narcissist, a convicted felon pathological liar as a Standard Bearer!
Betrayal is their ultimate agenda. Republicans casually discard treaties and abandon our democratic allies. It will take generations for anyone to trust us after Putin’s puppet and his party of traitorous enablers turned their backs on Ukraine, shredding America's credibility and demolishing decades of carefully built soft power at every opportunity.
Programs like USAID, which saved millions of lives and fostered immeasurable goodwill, are treated with disdain and discarded by a party of miscreants without an ounce of basic decency turning the United States into a global pariah. The only winners are the enemies of democracy, who are giddy with delight over being able to destroy America from the inside without firing a shot.
This is not governance —its sabotage. It reveals yet again that the Republican Party is devoid of honor, much less decency. They are liars operating a con game, not legislators at least trying to promote the general welfare.
No More Deals, Democrats
I said this months ago when 33% of the voting public put that unfit traitorous baboon back in office that the only job Democrats now had was to throw sand in the gears of fascism and slow these monsters down at every turn. Obstruct. Obstruct. Obstruct. Did Democrats listen to me? No. But here goes another example that negotiating with Republicans is an exercise in futility.
No More Deals: Engaging with Republicans under the pretense of good faith negotiation is the mission of a fool. It only provides them cover for their next betrayal.
Obstruct Relentlessly
The singular, urgent job of every Democrat in Congress right now is to stop the Republican agenda. Every bill. Every nomination. Everything! They cannot be allowed to govern when they govern through deception.
Chuck Schumer's apparent failure to grasp this harsh reality is itself a dangerous liability. The time for gentle persuasion or hoping the GOP will suddenly discover integrity is long past. Republicans have shown us who they are, time and again. They stab America in the back. Their word is worthless. Trusting them is political malpractice.
The only rational response is unyielding, unapologetic resistance.
