The Real Reason Pete Hegseth Is Removing Names of American Heroes from Navy Ships

Pete Hegseth, the so-called Defense Secretary, and a man whose only discernible talent is binge drinking while being white is ordering the names of civil rights icons be removed from the hulls of Navy vessels.

Harriet Tubman, Thurgood Marshall, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Medgar Evers—giants who bent the arc of history toward justice—are being symbolically annihilated by a man who, frankly, isn’t fit to lick their boots.

Who The Hell is Pete Hegseth to Judge Actual Heroes?

We all know Pete Hegseth is a Fox News talking head with a history of financial mismanagement, sexual misconduct allegations, and a drinking problem so notorious that even his Fox colleagues got sick of him showing up to the set still reeking of last night’s bender.

Hegseth bankrupted every organization he was inflicted upon, treating donor money as a personal slush fund for parties and “trysts”. Only in the maladministration of Traitor Trump can a drunken buffoon still have a job after leaking classified military plans over unsecure Signal chats to his wife, lawyer, and brother, and, no doubt every Russian spy within his wifi range.

Please tell me again about Hillary Clinton’s server, Republicans.

Hegseth’s first target is the USNS Harvey Milk, a ship named for a Navy veteran and one of the first openly gay elected officials in American history. Harvey Milk wore the uniform, served his country, and was forced out of the Navy for being gay.

Milk turned his pain into power, becoming a beacon for millions. He was assassinated for his courage, and posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His name on a Navy ship was a hard-won symbol, a small act of justice for generations of LGBTQ+ Americans who served in silence.

Hegseth wouldn’t know that kind of service—or courage. He’s busy weaponizing the Pentagon against the very idea of progress.

No surprise he announced his orders to strip Milk’s name from the ship on the first day of Pride Month—because to MAGAts, cruelty is the point. So is dividing America.

This isn’t about just one ship. The John Lewis-class oilers—named for a pantheon of American heroes: Earl Warren, Robert F. Kennedy, Lucy Stone, Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman—are next.

The Manliest Manbaby of Masculinity

According to Hegseth, it’s about “reestablishing the warrior culture,” which, in Trumpanzee Bizarro World, means perpetually boring everyone to tears by incessantly claiming to be the pinnacle of manly masculinity while simultaneously being pathologically subservient to the whiniest, most unfit, tittie manbaby, Putin’s b*tch, on the planet — and purging anyone who isn’t straight (acting) or white.

“Our military is the most formidable in the world – yet this vindictive action does not bolster our national security or the 'warrior' spirit. Rather, it represents a retreat from a core American principle: to honor the legacy of those who endeavored to create a better nation.”

— Rep. Nancy Pelosi

“a cowardly act from a man desperate to distract us from his inability to lead the Pentagon.”

—Gov. Gavin Newsom

Hegseth and his ilk want to spread their cowardly and misguided belief that honoring Harriet Tubman or Harvey Milk somehow weakens the military. But he couldn’t be more wrong. These are people who risked everything for an America that lived up to its promise. Harriet Tubman, who risked her life to lead enslaved people to freedom was more of a warrior than Hegseth could ever dream of being.

Harvey Milk wore the Navy uniform when it was illegal to be himself, and he still fought for his country in other ways when his country failed him. These are people who embody a courage Hegseth could never muster in a thousand lifetimes of kissing the ass of a con man with power.

Hegseth is not defending “warrior culture”—he’s defending his smallness because he’s too weak to withstand the truth that the struggle for progress, inclusion and justice is the most American battle there is.

Always on the Wrong Side of History

Transplant Pete Hegseth to any era, and you find him playing the same role—the bootlicking enforcer for power, the coward hiding behind authority, the antagonist standing between progress and the people fighting for a society that works for all.

He is not the hero. He is the one who tries to snuff out the light. Eventually, he will fail because history remembers the brave, and vilifies the boot.

Across time, “Hegseth” is the same. He is the Red Scare inquisitor, the Jim Crow poll watcher, the McCarthyite, the anti-suffragist. At every step toward a more perfect union, Hegseth is the one who stands in the way.

The Verdict:

The real reason Hegseth is trying to erase the names of American heroes is the same reason a closet case screams about “gays.”

These real-world examples of actual courage stand in stark contrast to his pathetic submission to the cult of right-wing mediocrity. Hegseth can’t stand to see the names of Harriet Tubman, Harvey Milk, or John Lewis emblazoned on Navy ships because their very existence is a rebuke to everything he is.

Tubman didn’t just talk about freedom—she risked her life, again and again, to drag this country a little closer to its founding ideals. John Lewis didn’t hide behind a desk at Fox News— he faced down billy clubs and tear gas for the right to vote. Harvey Milk put his life on the line so that generations of LGBTQ Americans could live openly, while Hegseth can barely muster the courage to stand up to a draft dodging con man who sent a mob of traitors to defecate and urinate in the halls of the Capitol.

That’s why Hegseth and his MAGAt minions are so desperate to erase these names. It’s not about “restoring tradition” or “honoring the warrior spirit”—it’s about protecting their fragile egos from the truth. Because every time a sailor boards the USNS Harriet Tubman, they’re reminded that real American greatness is built on the backs of people who fought for justice, not on the cowardice of unfit, DUI hires like Hegseth— an international embarrassment.

Hegseth and his MAGAts aren’t just erasing names. They’re trying to erase the very idea that America is supposed to get better, braver, and more inclusive with every generation. They all want to drag us back to a time when people like Tubman, Milk, and Lewis would never have been honored at all—a time when “warrior culture” meant keeping the straight (acting) white man’s boot on everyone else’s neck.

But history isn’t on his side. No matter how many names he scrapes off a hull, he can’t erase the truth— Pete Hegseth will be remembered, if at all, as an ignoble footnote in the long, proud story of Americans who actually made this country great. He will be a minor speed bump on progress that future generations will rightfully vilify.

That’s a truth that terrifies him the most.

There have always been unfit cowards like Hegseth, hoping that if he erases any memory of true courage, no one will figure out just how unfit and cowardly he really is.

Pete Hegseth is not fit to lick the feet of the people whose names he tries to erase. He stands on the wrong side of history, decency, dignity, and democracy—and history will remember him for exactly that.
