Now that the 2024 election is over and Trump is in office, one thing has become perfectly clear: You can lie to voters all you want, as long as you tell them the lies they want to hear. Tell them immigrants eat cats. It’s a lie, but it’s a lie many want to believe because it makes them feel how they want to feel. Tell them you can end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. They want to hear that one, too. And tell them prices are too high, but you and only you can bring those prices down.
Then get elected, and ignore each and every one of those promises and lies, because when you tell the lies people want to hear, you never have to make good on anything you say. Rick explains:
RICK: And I guess, the big one, I guess the 99 cent eggs we were promised, I guess that's not going to happen. And the reason I know it's not going to happen is Waffle House.
Waffle House, as we speak, has added a surcharge on any customer ordering eggs. You want an egg? Another half a buck. You want two eggs? Well, a buck. Now, remember, we were told 99 cents a dozen. I guess not.
And this is, look, Waffle House is no small player. They got 2,100 locations across the country. They serve 272 million eggs a year. That's a lot of money. And that's not even the money that you are going to spend on the increased cost of pancakes and everything else. Because guess what? There's eggs in there too.
Now, the thing that's interesting to me is where are my red hats? Where are the people screaming about the price of eggs? Gas prices are going up. The economy is not doing great. In fact, more layoffs this month.
So what are we getting?
We’re getting screwed. That’s what we’re getting. But at least we’re getting the lies we like to hear.
