Preparing to Escalate the War in Iran
The Trump administration is setting us up for the forever war

While Trump has proven to be the most impulsive president in American history, when it comes to putting boots on the ground in Iran, even Trump seems to be aware of the magnitude of the decision before him. And while he normally just announces an action without any warning at all, this time he seems to be making a case in the press, as several recent stories about a possible escalation have begun circulating. Each mentions the “possibility” of an escalation in the war with Iran, but we have seen our mainstream media used to promote wars in the past, we and should be wary of these reports and the people feeding them to us.
In the last few days, there have been several articles and cable news segments saying that Trump is “considering” an escalation in Iran, and that escalation, should it happen, will likely mean significant ground operations. And while the stories make sure to treat the plan to escalate as an uncertain thing, we should probably start preparing for it, because if our history tells us anything, it tells us that these kinds of reports start entering the media bloodstream after the military decisions have already been made.
Selling a war to the American people usually begins by selling us on the idea that our leaders understand and exercise restraint. That way, when the escalation happens, we can be sold on the idea that it had to happen. That we would rather not fight. That we are somehow being pulled into this conflict against our will. That we are the good guys. Again, this is not how war actually happens. This is simply how it is sold to us so we will calmly serve up our children to go fight in the next forever war of choice. The Trump administration is trying to sell us on the necessity of an escalation in Iran because they have no other options available to bring the war to a close, at least none that allow Trump to claim victory.
As most now know, our mainstream media is overwhelmingly controlled by billionaires, and almost all of them either support Trump completely, or do what he says in order to avoid the drama that defying him always brings. So if the administration wants to make the case publicly that we need to escalate the war, mainstream media is going to present the argument on the administration’s terms. They will pitch us on the idea that the escalation may be necessary and that we are only doing what we must, neither of which is true. However, this is no different from any other war we have sold to the people in the past. We always present it as the last possible option, especially when our plan is to skip all the others.
Trump has put himself in a place where there simply are no good options. He started this fight and has lost every round so far. Iran is emboldened and has now extended the conflict to the Red Sea, where Iran-backed Houthi militants have declared a blockade on Saudi shipping. We’re currently burning through our military assets faster than we can make them, and we are spending ridiculous amounts of money to attack a country that only has to spend a fraction of what we spend to protect itself. Iran is winning, and it is doing so convincingly, and that simple truth is driving everything, including the escalation that is presently being pitched as an option instead of what it really is – a near certainty.
I have no inside sources on this one. I’m just reading the news with a critical eye that understands both our history and the rhetoric that so often drives public opinion. And both are telling me that we will escalate the war in Iran, and we will do so soon.
And depending on how successful that escalation is, we might start seeing stories a year from now about how Trump is “considering” the draft.
