No Mourning, Only Malice: Republicans Exploit Minnesota Killings
GOP’s response to political violence reveals a party determined to inspire more bloodshed
The blood wasn’t even dry in Minnesota before the right-wing disinformation machine kicked into overdrive to poison America and tear us further apart.
The swill spewing from the Republican Party and their media echo chamber doesn’t require a moment of reflection or a shred of decency— just a reflexive lunge for the nearest disingenuous talking point, no matter how grotesque or grotesquely divorced from reality.
The assassinations of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and the attempted murder of Senator John Hoffman were immediately weaponized by the very people whose rhetoric made this violence inevitable.
It’s par for the course nowadays for the MAGAt Republican Party and it’s co-conspirators. A growing body of evidence, expert analysis and our own eyes show that the GOP’s response to political violence not only fails to deescalate tensions, but instead stokes further division, risking more violence. The latest Republican-lie-inspired acts of terror are another example.
As long as Democrats are the ones being attacked, Republicans shrug and deflect. Harvard’s Steve Levitsky nailed it: Republicans aren’t just okay with violence—they’re encouraging it. Polls show most Republicans now think “patriotic Americans” might need to get violent. That’s not democracy—that’s a death cult.
And let’s not kid ourselves—Traitor Trump leads the parade. His nonstop hate-spewing, echoed by right-wing media, paints Democrats as enemies of America. That’s how you get real-world violence. The GOP’s message is clear: if you can’t win with votes, try violence.
When the Republican chickens come home to roost in more needless death, Republicans and their “influencers” never take a moment to mourn or to even look at themselves in the mirror to ponder just how low they’ve become. They get busy further lying and dividing. That’s all they have to offer America.
Here’s how they handled the murders in Minnesota:
The Right-Wing Disinformation Roll Call
Within hours, the usual co-conspirators on the right were tripping over themselves to blame the left for the murders and attempted murders of four Democrats with narratives were so absurd it would be funny if it weren’t so deadly.
Here’s the parade of Republican fascists who immediately began pushing the Q-swill into the empty heads of their eager dupes.
Mike Cernovich: Cernovich, a professional conspiracy theorist, floated the idea that Governor Tim Walz himself ordered the hit, posting, “Did Tim Walz have her executed to send a message?” and calling for the FBI to arrest the governor. Of course, this accusation has no relation to reality. But we can’t expect more from fascist filth who makes a living tearing America apart.
The filthy fascist MAGAt wouldn’t quit, either. He kept on spewing his poison for those stupid enough to follow him to suckle on.
Rogan O’Handley (DC_Draino): O’Handley amplified Cernovich, asking, “Did Tim Walz order a hit job of a Democrat state legislator that voted against his agenda?” Again, no facts, just the hope that enough repetition will make the lie stick. That’s how the fascists do it. As Joseph Goebbels said, “repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth". MAGAts learned their lessons well.
Benny Johnson: A shameless traitor to America who took money from the Kremlin to spread pro-Trump lies, claimed Walz “personally knew” the suspect and that the killings were “assassinations of Tim Walz political enemies.” He also calls Walz, "the face of evil". As usual, everything a MAGAt says is a confession or a projection.
In reality, Walz reappointed the suspect to an unpaid board years ago—a routine and impersonal act. There is no relationship, no conspiracy, just more right-wing vomit to tear America apart for clicks and a pat on the head from Putin.
Grok: The artificial intelligence tool on Elon Musk’s Nazi-infested platform repeated the falsehood about Hoffman that she had voted to end healthcare for undocumented immigrants when she had not.
Grok is notorious for spreading false or misleading information about public figures who happen to be Democrats. These “anomalies” are often attributed to its “training data”.
Collin Rugg: Rugg, co-owner of TrendingPolitics, invented a motive out of thin air, suggesting Hortman was killed for voting with Republicans on a healthcare bill. He’s wrong on the facts—Hoffman, who was also attacked, voted the other way. But accuracy isn’t the point, spreading the lie is.
Elon Musk: Musk, the world’s richest man and current owner of X (formerly Twitter), quote-tweets the lie that Hortman was killed by the left and adds, “The far left is murderously violent.” He’s not interested in facts—he’s interested in spreading more disinformation, stoking division and making sure he can help focus that misdirected rage towards getting more Democrats killed.
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT): Lee posts a photo of the suspect and declares, “This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way,” and, “Marxism is a deadly mental illness.” This, despite clear evidence that the killer is a Trump supporter with far-right, anti-abortion views. Lee doesn’t care. He’s not here for truth—he’s here for the culture war.
Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH): Moreno blames “the extreme left,” calling it “radical, violent, and intolerant.” No evidence, just the same script, recycled for every Republican-lie-inspired tragedy.
It’s the kind of rhetoric that inspires a registered Republican to don a police uniform and target elected representatives in the middle of the night.
The Anatomy of a Lie
This isn’t a bug, it’s a feature of the right-wing ecosystem. Their entire media ecosystem exists to poison the discourse and ensure that even in the face of political assassination, the only thing that matters is keeping the Americans dumb enough to listen to them confused and divided against their fellow citizens.
They invent motives, they invent connections, and when the facts come out and we learn that the killer is a exactly what normal people expected — a deeply conservative, religious Trump supporter—they keep sowing doubt. When Paul Pelosi was attacked, we heard the now Deputy Director of the FBI opine how “something” didn’t seem right. The MAGAt Republican “way” is to never back down. Never apologize. Never learn from a situation and… above all… never. Ever. Stop.
Bullet points alone can’t capture the depth of the Republican rot, but let’s be clear, gone are the days when this kind of swill came from fringe actors. These are senators, media moguls, and influencers with millions of followers. Their lies spread instantly, infecting the public square and ensuring that reality is up for debate. They don’t care who gets hurt. The point is to tear America apart.
What It Proves
Republicans and their media allies have no interest in truth. Much less, in unity. Their first instinct is to lie, to divide, and to exploit tragedy for political gain. It’s time to face it. This MAGAt Republican Party is a lost cause. They are the domestic enemies the founders warned us about.
It’s not just that they don’t care about democracy, it’s that they actively despise it. Every time they spread these lies, they make more violence inevitable. Their rhetoric got these people killed, and they will keep doing it, because the only thing that matters is power and money. The more divided America is, the more Republicans will continue to break the democracy until its beyond all repair. Then, they can steal and lord over us with impunity.
If the murderer had been a Democrat, every Democratic leader would have condemned the violence immediately and unequivocally. There would be no “just asking questions,” no desperate attempts to blame the other side—just calls for unity.
But if past is prologue, Republicans will never “see the light.” They will never act as if they have any stake in a functioning democracy. They will use every opportunity to spread lies, to further radicalize their base, and with that, they ensure that the next tragedy is only a matter of time.
This is the MAGAt Republican Party. It’s a movement addicted to lies, allergic to truth, and utterly indifferent to the destruction they leave in their wake. They don’t just hate Democrats—they hate America, or at least any version of America where democracy, decency, and reality still matter.
