It is a well-established law of the universe that Republicans do not care about an issue unless it affects them directly. Until then, they cheer and vote for cruelty. Human suffering is just a punchline as long as they think somebody else is getting hurt. When the policies they enable disrupt their own lives, they suddenly plead for empathy.
