The Young Republicans’ Hate Chat Shows the Moral Collapse Trump Wants For America

Human society has always used shame to keep our worst impulses in check. From childhood, we’re taught: don’t lie, don’t steal, don’t hurt others — not because the law says so, but because decent people don’t. Shame is civilization’s immune system. But that system collapses when one group — today’s Republican Party — becomes utterly shameless.

“I Love Hitler”. Yes, Republicans — We Know

The latest proof comes from a trove of 28,000 Telegram messages leaked from state-level Young Republican leaders in New York, Kansas, Arizona, and Vermont, as reported by Politico. These grown adults — many working in government — traded racist, anti semitic, and sexist bile like it was a competitive sport. They joked about gas chambers and called black athletes “monkeys.” They glorified Adolf Hitler and mocked rape victims. Just another day at the office for Republicans showing open contempt for the humanity of their fellow citizens, while plotting our political future.

While some members were quietly dismissed, others played a common Republican role — the victim. Of course, it’s just like fascists to claim the mantle of the victim while simultaneously being the oppressor. I guess, their “love of Hitler” makes them incapable of reflecting on how dehumanizing others — especially while plotting against them in the halls of power — is, actually, victimizing them.

Not a Single “Voice of Reason” in the Lot

I would ask these poor, put-upon “young Republicans”, where were the voices of reason in these chats? The bile they spewed wasn’t isolated - it was incessant — and it went on for months. As such, we can safely conclude that this is simply the way Republicans speak to each other when they think normal people aren’t listening.

What do you expect from a party where hate is normalized? JD Vance, the most disliked Vice President in American history, dismissed the outrage over the leaked Republican chat messages, brushing it off as merely “a college group chat.” Keep in mind that some of the people in this chat were 35 years old with real jobs in Trump’s maladministration, but there goes JD, making excuses rather than correcting bad behavior. The Republican Party is the Rotting Corpse of the Confederacy

Face it, Patriots. This is not the party of Lincoln. It’s the party of the Confederacy, through and through. Republicans once howled about “cancel culture,” pretending it was tyranny for normal people to reject their bile. But the truth is, they just want to spew their bile with impunity while they turn their hate into policy they expect us to endure, quietly and without complaint.

Under Trump’s lawless, America-hating regime, degradation is the governing ideology. Cruelty is policy. Decency is mocked and shame is nonexistent. The so-called Young Republicans learned from the orange, rotting head that hate isn’t a disqualifier — it’s a credential. They watched a con man who bragged about assaulting women, dodging the draft, and defrauding his country rise to the highest office in the land — again. In Republican world, being vile is not a liability — it’s the brand.

Don’t Become Numb

But the rest of us — the actual adults in the room — can’t afford to become numb to this sewer of hate. The Politico investigation revealed that some members linked to this chat are already embedded in local and federal political structures. These are not anonymous trolls in a basement. They are aides, staffers, and leaders shaping laws and policies that affect millions.

Human beings are diverse and interconnected — that’s our greatest strength, and exactly what this Republican Party despises. Shame is not a flaw but a vital part of the human experience, a built-in moral regulator that keeps society from sliding into collapse. It works only when we collectively agree that decency matters, that racism, homophobia, misogyny and authoritarianism are moral failures, not political aspirations or just a reasonable point of view on the “both sides” paradigm.

For a while, we were inching forward, imperfect but progressing — until the shameless decided to hand power back to a serially bankrupt, tax-cheating, draft-dodging, democracy-loathing felon who cultivates contempt for others and hopes the whole of society follows suit.

If this abominable timeline is teaching us anything, it’s that a functioning democracy requires more than laws — it requires shared disgust at indecency. It requires shame.

When shame disappears, civilization decays. If we can’t shame the shameless, the only thing we can do is make them irrelevant and strip then of all power. So, let them keep their cruelty. We’ll keep our decency — and our democracy.
