When the history of this time is written, it’ll be labeled the New Gilded Age of Greed, Grifting, and Gaslighting where reality is imposed from on high by threats and repetition. Nothing illustrates this more than the Republican push to canonize Charlie Kirk. Since the day he was tragically murdered, Republicans have worked to squeeze as much political capital out of it as they can for as long as they can. In addition to Trump’s promise to bestow the posthumous Medal of Freedom on Kirk, Republicans have proposed bills to put his face on coins, erect statues in his image, and even hold holidays bearing his name.
