Republicans love to wave the flag and drape it over all their attacks on democracy, every book ban, every attempt to shove their narrow, backwards, worldview down everyone’s throat. But read between the lines and their true anti-American agenda is obvious.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt got some of the attention by declaring, “Apprenticeships, electricians, plumbers—we need more of those in our country, and less LGBTQ graduate majors from Harvard University, and that’s what this administration’s position is.”
While the basic stupidity of the assertion can’t be denied, given Harvard is actually being stripped of $1 billion for health research, not LGBTQ stuides—it’s also a blaring example that Republicans are fundamentally confused by freedom and what this America-thingie is all about.
The GOP crusade against America’s universities, and education in general, lays bare just how fundamentally unfit they are to function in a free, modern democratic society. Their actions make it clear. Republican loathe freedom, the American people, and everything that actually makes a nation great.
In Every Republican Chest, Beats the Heart of Fascism
Republicans claim they’re “saving” America from “woke” universities, but what they’re really doing is attacking the very foundation of a successful civilization.
The whole point of a modern, thriving society is that we’ve taken care of the basics. We’ve got “Maslow’s hierarchy of needs” covered. We don’t have to live hand to mouth or scratch out crumbs just to survive—ideally. That, of course, is when government is promoting the General Welfare over the welfare of a few billionaire sociopaths or their con man puppet.
People in a free society have the luxury, the right, to contemplate what it means to be human, to study the meaning of life, to ask the big questions. That’s not a weakness—it’s the mark of a civilization. But to Republicans, the American people are just little worker drones to be exploited for the sociopathic parasites hoarding wealth at the top.
Who the hell are Republicans to tell us what we can study? Since when does “freedom” mean the government gets to decide which ideas free people are allowed to discuss? Who the hell are Republicans to tell anyone they can’t be a LGBTQ Harvard grad? The answer is a simple, “screw them.” The only response to this tyranny is to fight back.
Make no mistake, in every Republican chest beats the heart of fascism, and their ongoing assault on education is an essential chapter in their authoritarian playbook.
Republicans Pine for “Daddy” to Save Them from the Scary, Complex World
When Republicans denigrate higher education, they always zero in on “gender studies” or “LGBTQ majors” because it triggers the “average Joe” MAGAt who can’t handle even the idea that gender is a construct and that the rigid hierarchies they cling to are byproducts of society, not nature.
Conservatism, at its core, is the ideology of hierarchy—a desperate longing for a “daddy” to save them from a complex world where not everyone knows their place. If gender is a construct, then the entire Republican power structure is revealed as the sham it is.
MAGAts may think that they’re triggering the libs when they scream “daddy’s home,” talking about Traitor Trump’s re-election, but they’re just telling on themselves. They lack the fundamental ability to function in a free, democratic society. The system the founders created doesn’t need a “daddy.” In fact, in a free, modern society, we govern ourselves like adults, not children who pine for “daddy” to save them from the scary, complex world of “others” who take gender studies classes.
This “daddy” BS is right out of the fascist playbook—just ask Viktor Orbán, whose regime in Hungary banned gender studies outright and gutted university independence, turning a once-vibrant democracy into the envy of American fascists. Now, Republicans are openly following Orban’s lead, importing his tactics to America and using state power to crush dissent, erase academic freedom, and remake universities in their own image.
Republican Orban Envy
Hungary’s ban on gender studies wasn’t about “practical skills” or “economic needs.” It was about erasing inconvenient truths, silencing marginalized voices, and enforcing a rigid, state-approved ideology. The result is fascist brain drain—the inevitable byproduct of the assault on education that’s already happening here.
You see, Republicans are not interested in building a nation of thinkers, creators, or citizens—they want obedient drones who never pester their “betters” for a seat at the table.
In Texas, Florida, and beyond, Republican legislatures are passing laws to limit protests, seize control over academic content, and dictate which degrees are allowed. The Trump maladministration is freezing billions in funding, threatening universities, and using the full weight of the federal government to intimidate anyone who dares to think for themselves or encourages anyone to do the same. This isn’t about “protecting taxpayers.” It’s about punishing institutions that refuse to bow to the America-hating fascists.
What Actually Makes America Great
A successful civilization doesn’t fear ideas. It doesn’t tell its people what’s off-limits to study, to think, to imagine. America’s greatness has always come from its willingness to ask the hard questions, to challenge orthodoxy, to let every citizen—every citizen—reach their full potential, whether that means plumbing, poetry, or pondering the very nature of existence. That’s what freedom looks like.
Republicans have no respect for that freedom. They see the American people as expendable, interchangeable cogs in a machine built for the benefit of the ultra-wealthy. Their vision of America is one where only the powerful get to decide what’s true, what’s valuable, and who gets to belong.
Freedom or Fascism?
In their war on education, Republicans are attacking everything that actually makes America great—curiosity, diversity, intellectual freedom, and the right of every person to find their own path. They are not fit to hold leadership positions in a modern nation. Their vision is as small, mean, and profoundly un-American as they are.
If we let them dictate what can be taught, who can belong, and what it means to be human—then we lose everything that ever made this country “great” to begin with.
We stick together. We fight back. That’s how we win.
